Ever thought of becoming a professional photographer? Of course you have, all of us have at some point.  From the moment we purchased our first DSLR it’s been a secret dream for us all.

Most people dismiss it as just a fleeting thought, “I’m no where near good enough” they think, and then carry on with their lives content with trying to take great photos with their new toy.

It’s usually a little time later, after taking lots and lots of really good photos, that they start to think “Maybe I could do this.”

But where to from this point?

The best way to start your professional career is to take an accredited photography course.  The Photography Institute offers online courses that you can do from the comfort of your own home.  Just look them up in Google.

There are a lot of different types of photography.  The smart photographer will decide which one they are best at and start specializing in that type.

Advertising Photography
Aerial Photography
Architectural Photography
Astronomical Photography
Conceptual photography
Crime Scene Photography
Fashion Photography
Fine Art Photography
Food Photography
Photojournalism
Portrait & Wedding Photography
Still life Photography
Wildlife Photography

And these are only a few of the directions you could go.

That’s not to say you can’t cross over.  A wedding photographer could quite easily cross over into fashion photography for instance.  And if anyone gets the chance to do some aerial photography, do it!

As you can see, becoming a professional photographer doesn’t happen overnight.  But it can happen, and it does for those who are persistent.  The first step though for all of you is to practice.  Practice, practice, practice.  Take as many photos as you can and read up on anything photographic related that you can.  And above all, have fun!

Happy Shooting!
